Self -reflective

I’ve writing my diary since I was young, dozens of diary books are laying on my book shelf. They are my friends that have been through all the moments and memories in my life, whether happy or sad. I like to write, but I can never define myself as a good writer. It’s because I don’t feel confident about my writings especially sharing with others. From my diary, I even thought writings are individual; they go through people’s heart and are shown as their emotions and thoughts. From all the writing classes I took before this course, my writings were just like my diaries, they were only for showing to the teachers to get a good grade. Honestly, I was pretty comfortable to stay a world just like that. However, I didn’t even expect a writing class could be like this. At the beginning of the class, I was kind of afraid about posting my writings on the blog. It was all about the confident that I had for myself. But right now, we are getting close to the final of this course, through all the works we’ve done, actually I realized it wasn’t a bad way to do it. It has not only given me the processes for how to be a better writer, but also the attitude to my writings and the people who read my writings.
My attitude of writing has changed is the most important advantage that I have to point out. It should attribute to use the blog to post our writing assignments. Using blog to post writing assignments is a totally public resource that has been used for this class, which means everyone could see each other’s work. There are lots of benefits we can get from blog. We have kind of discussed those benefits in the
post 2. Through this processes, I started to spend more time during my writing because I want my topic or my idea to be interesting to my classmates or even to everyone who has seen my blog. Also, I started to pay attention to all the comments that have been posted under my writing; it’s a good way to know how other people think about your writing, and how to take those comments to approve a better writing.
I think a good writing work takes time; it needs to be thoughtful and interesting. Through all the writing assignments that I have done during this course, I have discovered some writing strategies that I have learned from my own writing.
The way I would define for a “good writer” is how to be clear with your statements. How to create interesting ideas into your writing; and how to grab audience’s attention quickly at the beginning of your writing. The best writing work that I have done would be the
“Observational essay--Distance".
Also, I have found some simple but important steps for my writing (it might work for others as well)
1. Find a topic
2. Research, gather information
3. Organize the information
4. Clear topic
5. Edit thoughts and insert them into paragraphs.
6. Introduction and conclusion
7. Read and reread the writing
Topic is the soul of writing. A good topic determines the most important element of a good work.
Through researches, all the information and evidence that you’ve found must be close and helpful to prove your topic.
Organize the information is the way to pick the best evidences that can support your writing. Those evidences have to be powerful to your writing.
Edit your thoughts into the writing is next important step, that’s how you think about your topic as a writer to the audience.
Introduction has to be interesting because this is the place where you have catch audience’s attention. This is the key of your writing.
Conclusion is a place where should have the effect to gather your writing up to your focal point. It attaches with your introduction and even your topic.
Read and reread the writing is the chance to correct some writing errors, such as grammars, spellings, and words choosing.
During this course, my writing has definitely developed by doing all the assignments and practices that we’ve done inside of the class. Like when we were discussing the “destroyed room”, I learned lots of strategies about how to actually observe an object, and from that point, how to develop your imaginations to what you’ve seen. From that “destroyed room” model, I created my own writing about the same topic
—“Calvin Klein- the definition of sexy” and “Post #11-photograph”.
There are some lots of things that I need to work on, especially with the English grammars and spelling.
All in all, thank you, Josh, and a big hug to myself for all the works I’ve done for this semester. Have fun in the summer, everyone!

Rhetorical analysis-- war is over

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, and the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”
-----Dwight Eisenhower

People always say that great victory has great sacrifice. There are lots of people who are died in the war every year. However, have they ever awakened your conscience or your compassion about how the wars truly are? This video would give you a great view how war or death destroy those innocent people’s life. Therefore, who would feel guilty for all of this?
John Lennon and Yoko Ono wrote this in their New York City hotel room and recorded it during the evening of October 28 and into the morning of the 29th 1971 at the Record Plant in New York. It was released in the US for Christmas.”
“John and Yoko spent a lot of time in the late’60s and early ‘70s working to promote peace. In 1969, they put up billboard advertisements in major cite around the world that said, “War is over! (If you want it!)” Two years later this became the basis for this song when Lennon decided to make a Christmas record with an anti-war massage.”
The people who like the song “Happy Christmas (war is over)” describe themselves as friendly, kind, and shy. It’s connected with the meaning of the song- be friendly and be kind to the world. “And so this is Christmas, and what have you done? Another year is over, and a new one just begun....” John Lennon has described a special Christmas to every audience and the listener. It leads us to a world which is filled with violence, fire, and death. It’s a world that we have never been, that is a world that with hopeless future.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It has gathered my attention at the beginning of the video, there are pairs of pure eyes were looking at the camera. Different faces were shown front of the camera, but with the same expression. I was touched even at the beginning of the video, especially with John Lennon’s tone as the background music. A young boy is sitting in the hospital’s bed; his eyes are filled with fears: not only about what he just went through, also what going to happen in the unknown future. His left hand is clasping his dad’s who still has tears on the face...... An old father is crying without control, his son has just died in the fire......Hundreds of people are running, there is a tank unit behind them......There are countless dead bodies are still lying on the side of streets. A dad who still has his baby in arm is one of them......A little boy gives a “peace” sign to the camera when he is in the military truck..... Two boys are playing in a meadowland which is filled with mines...... A lady is putting a flower at where her husband was died...... This entire video considers to the aspects of the victims during wars. Christmas is the most important holiday to everyone. Like what we all know, we celebrate Christmas as the happiest time in the year. We spend Christmas time with family, sharing presents, eat dinner together. It’s simple but also a significant of the human society. However, the people who are in the war can never have a Christmas like what we do. The factors of Christmas should be happiness, amiability, and peace; it should be the time which is without violence, tears, and fears. Like what John Lennon singed in the song “another year is over, and a new one just begun”, their goal was trying to tell the audiences “war is over” by saying “another year is over”. In addition, it sets the topic off (anti- war) by saying “Happy Christmas” and “war is over”. Christmas is the sign of the war’s ending, it also gave to hopes to everyone that war will be over after “Christmas”.
These are just some episodes in the war, but it also shows us a different side of life. A totally dissimilar underworld than where we live. Like what Mahatma Gandhi said at the end of the video: “An eye for an eye will make us all blind.” We always say “the eye is the mind window”, what the “window” has showed for us is the darkness of the world.“War” is still a sensitive topic for us. But living in a peace world, little by little, we might already forgot what violence world could be, especially for the young generations like us, “War” is something we haven’t been through. We always complain about how discontented we feel about our lives, such and such, however, we haven’t realized there are some people who don’t even have a place to live, who might die anytime under fire, who might lost their family in a split second, who don’t even know where they will be tomorrow. We should understand how grateful to live in a peaceful world if you are touched by looking at those pure eyes. Also, please pray for them for having a happy Christmas and happy life.

Ps: I think there is a color can best describe this video. Blue. Blue is a very emotional color. It can be electric. Cool and spiritual, but it can also be sad, dark and calm. Blue can use its power to change the world, but requires a great deal of persistence to harness its power, I think that would be the responsibility for each one of us.

final weekly writing assignment 2

I think everyone knows the news about Virginia Tech, it has been shown on the television since it happened. It's the worst school gun shot in the American history.
There is more information about Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech police and administrators struggled to explain late Monday why the campus was not locked down after a deadly shooting earlier in the day, and why students were in classrooms two hours later when a lone gunman entered a campus building and slaughtered 30 people, before turning a gun on himself.
The man responsible for murdering 32 people — the worst mass-murder shooting in American history — who carried no ID, remained unidentified late Monday, police said.
By the end of the spree, 33 people, including the gunman, were dead and authorities warned the toll could rise because several more were critically injured.
Students complained that there were no public-address announcements or other warnings on campus after the first burst of gunfire that left two dead. They said the first word they received from the university was an e-mail more than two hours into the rampage — around the time it is believed that the gunman struck again.
University President Charles Steger said authorities believed that the shooting at the dorm was a domestic dispute and mistakenly thought the gunman had fled the campus.
"We had no reason to suspect any other incident was going to occur," Steger said.

the moral of "Absolute"

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

If you don’t know “absolute”, you wouldn’t know what the moral behind this ad. Absolute, like one of the most popular alcohol drink in America, it’s famous, fascinating, also the best choice for an alcoholic. But this ad has given us a different meaning of “absolute”. The rhetorical strategy that the ad implements is how to define “how can absolute ends an alcoholic’s life”, by using the shape of absolute drink’s bottle as a hanging rope. The shape of the bottle is also a sign to all the alcoholic who see the ad, telling them drinking alcohol is the way to death. From our comment sense, we know the shape of a hanging rope can never be a shape of an absolute drink bottle. But we all know the rope could end people’s life, this ad is telling the audience that drinking can also end people’s life just like the rope. This ad looks simple enough, however it gives every audience a strong sense of how harmful the alcohol drink can be to ruin your life. The type of appeals the ad employs is pathos. This ad “attempts to put the audience into a particular emotional state so that the audience will be receptive to and ultimately convinced” by the ad’s message. Also, I think this ad has a great connection with another ad.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It’s also a shape of absolute bottle, but this time it appears at the scene of a crime. The shape of the bottle is the shape of the dead body. I think it has a similar moral like the first one.

Calvin Klein- the definition of sexy

Calvin Klein has set sexy as one of their characteristics for underwear products. Usually people think about sexy as showing some private body parts, unlike that, this advertisement has given me a different way to think about for being sexy. In this particular image, everything seems sexy, such as her post, her expression, even her simple white underwear. A dark grey color has set off the atmosphere of its background, as well as comparing with the color of her underwear. (Personally, I always think black & white photos can give audience a stronger impression, also for describing details.)

The model puts her hand up under her shirt, one finger touches her lips lightly, and her eyes are covered with hair. Although it’s hard to see the expression, however, it still makes her looks sexy in anyways. Gathering all the elements inside of the ad, it has effectively lay stress on the key point—sexy appeal. Furthermore, it is appropriate for being a successful advertisement. The text—“Calvin Klein” has been put at the center of the ad, it looks like a lip stick writing on the mirror. (once again points out a such sexy appeal belongs to “Calvin Klein”) I think there is some kind of connection with Logos, such as the statistics of sexy, the facts of sexy, the definitions of sexy, and how people usually think about sexy.

Colors of the photograph are forest green, ground brown, dark brown, grey, black, and little bit of white. The forest background has a kind of hazy scene comparing to the three characters in the center, three girls have clear and detailed expressions and motions. Although those expressions and motions are personal, however, there is still a common on each one of them—fear. As three young and inexperienced kids, the fear by the unsure surrounding environment is perfectly logical and reasonable. Also, this is what I realized as a viewer, first time seen this photograph. Furthermore, the three characters are big but also small. They are at the center of the photograph, comparing with how the artist shoots the focal point, they are big, it’s because they are the main point of the photograph; comparing with the forest, three innocent characters are small, it’s because they are unsecured and helpless. The contrast can be the dark color (the forest) with the bright color (their clothing and light beam). From the characters expressions, if you look at them carefully, you even can find some imprints of their personalities. The direction of the light also represents where the fear comes from, also the light has brought up the main point of the photograph, also it has highlighted and set off the characters and core idea of the photograph. The strong scene of the unsecured and helpless feelings, as a powerless and innocent kid has brought up the persuasive statement of this entire photograph. This work doesn’t have many decorations to set off; however, it gives us a strong feeling of curiosity to imagine what is happening to the three girls. Therefore, it makes us to think about ourselves as a human being who is living in a modern world.

There are three innocent girls are inside of the dark forest alone, helpless and lonely. They have been lost in this huge deep forest. They are regret about what they have done, and even realized they shouldn’t escape from their orphanage. Although they were so curious about the outside life, but at least they were safe inside there. Bare feet step on the withered leaves and branches, hard and sharp points have injured their feet. They don’t know what’s going to happen to them; therefore they don’t even know how to surmount difficulties and dangers. There was the sound of light footsteps behind them. “What was that?” they stopped going forward, holding each other tightly. Fears are filled up every part of their bodies. They are afraid to look back, Lisa’s head is turned at the half way, she clutches her hands on Jacob’s arm. Lia is standing in the middle between Lisa and Jacob, she is shaking, even scared to raise her head up. Jacob is always the bravest girl in this little group, she probes her head to the right, moves her body forward and tries to get closer to the unsure object. She can feel Lia and Lisa’s shaking bodies. Although she is uncertain what that was, but she knows she has to calm them down, no matter what is going to happen, three of them still have to face it.

The Artist of this photograph is Polixeni Papapetrou, it was published in 2006. 40 * 40 inches pigment print. It’s named “By the Yarra”. There are three girls in the center of the picture; they have represented the meaning of it. As the main characters of this work, they have caught audience’s attention. It has wide, dark, and gloomy green forest as the background. Not far from them, withered branches are still hanging on the trees. Under their bare feet, there were brown withered leaves and dried grass. The light beam is coming from the only direction which is toward their faces; it has light up their expression—innocent, but filled with fear and dread. They are holding each other tightly. The tallest girl has clutched her hands on another girl’s arm. The girl beside her is almost cry, half of her face is covered with the messy hair. Two of them are even scared to look at what is behind them, another one, which is standing at the opposite direction, she is looking forward carefully. The color of their clothing has a strong contrast with color of the forest background. Two girls have kind of grey brown color; another one is like coffee brown. They have same kind of hair color; in addition all of their hair is spread out on their shoulders.

Reflective essay-Treasure Our Lives

If it has not happened, I would never realize what the unfortunate illness would change a family’s life. “Your dad had heart attack, fortunately he was sent to hospital soon enough that the thrombus hasn’t been through his heart.”
That was what the doctor had told us when the first time I had heard something about the unfamiliar words “heart attack”. The terrible, irritate hospital smell was popped up from my childhood memory. It has been a place that I was used be so afraid of.
Dad was lying in the hospital bed. Needle of the drip was stabbing deeply in his blood vessel. A green dot was jumping on the screen irregularly. My sister asked me what that was, I told her it’s connected to dad’s heart. She started crying, dad was trying to move his arm to hug my sister, but he couldn’t. Maybe she didn’t understand what was going on, but I knew, the expression didn’t belong to dad, ashamed and weak. “Dad...dad....” all the words had lost, I even forgot to coax my sister for stop crying. Tears started running at the moment I saw my dad after his first heart surgery.

Especially my mom, she couldn’t get any good sleep in those days when my dad was in the hospital. She called my uncle almost everyday who is a traditional Chinese physician. Although those things my uncle had told her weren’t all helpful for my dad’s situation, she still tried to find the ways to make things better.

“cholesterol 25......” “No, we can’t buy it because there is too much cholesterol; you know it’s not good for your dad.”
“Fat 46....” “No, not this one, your dad should be on diet. So do us. Well, I think we can take this one, see, sugar and fat free.....”
Buying food with mom is one of the things that started giving me headache. Diet coke tastes weird; broccoli, carrots, and lettuce are the things my mom must buy when she goes to market. Especially with dad, he quit buying the ice cream that he used to get for us. $89.00, dad asked me to pick up his medicine at pharmacy for quit smoking, which was used to spend on his “Marlboro”. Mrs. Liu just mailed us a new health insurance plan; mom and dad would start spending so much more on insurance instead of other things.

The year after my dad had heart attack, I stay home with my sister for most of the time. It was because mom has to work extra hours after we received the bill from hospital. There was no more jokes could hear from dad every night at dinner time, my sister felt asleep in my arm while waiting for mom gets home. I felt I got more responsibilities than any other time in my life. Shadow of the illness started to influence our family, furthermore everything has turned out to be so unfamiliar than what I’ve known.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I still cannot figure out what the flowers call that mom always buys, their stems are long and thick, and all flowers are showing their expressions with the colorful petals, full of vitality. Mom has told me once it can bring us a better mood that well balanced. There is a plant hanging on the ceiling, by my mom’s meticulously care, green large leaves have even grew out from the flowerpot. She bought it from one of the Chinese market; they told her it can produce oxygen, better to have it in the house, although I still can’t feel any changes that the plant has brought us. Sometimes leaves falling off from up there, it becomes my job to clean them off from carpet. Be healthier, that’s what mom wants our lives to be, eat healthier, live healthier.
Dad was a softball coach when he was young; he always tells us he wants my sister to become a softball player when she grows up. In the summer, he spends most of the free time with her in the backyard; although my sister is only six, but she can catch almost all balls that dad throws to her. At that moment, the relieve smile appears on dad’s face. It’s fun to watch you play with dad, but mom usually stands behind and yelling to dad “be careful” or “don’t run too fast”. At that time, I think my sister switched the role with dad; mom cares about dad like a six-year old, afraid of any injury.
Dad has become oversensitive about me. The grades I make in college, even the friends I hang around with. I still remember that night I came home late, that was the first time dad got mad at me because I told him I will be home by 2 o’clock, but actually I came home at 3. I knew he was just worried about my safety at the late night, although I just went to an old friend’s birthday party. “You should be careful, what about if your car broke down on the street at this late night? Dad can’t together with you forever......” forever, this is the word always promotes my tears. I have never thought about the life without dad, or even only imagine it. “Can’t together with me forever.....” all my vessels were tight together, “what would the life be if without dad....”
Lives are precious, but no one knows what would happen tomorrow. “Take serious about your life; be grateful for having a health happy life.” That’s what we realized after dad’s heart attack.
Dad is planning to have a trip to Georgia in the summer, everyone gets so excited, that’s something we haven’t done long time since then. “We should enjoy our lives.” That’s what dad always says.

I have been studying Japanese as my third language for two years. Since my junior year high school, Japanese class was become my foreign language class. I have learned lots of interesting things by the time I get into deeper about Japanese Language, tradition, culture. I have discovered at some ways, Japan and China have a lot of things in common, such as their holidays, traditional celebrations, religion, etc. It really gives me the interests of learning Japanese.

Comparing the differences between China and Japan is one thing I like to do while I’m learning Japanese, in the way of technique, education, civilization, and history to determine what we should draw on from them. Learning Japanese is not only to get to know about Japan, but also a method to find out the achievements and history of such a great country.

During WW II, Japan surrendered to China as a defeated nation. Since then, China and Japan have stood at two opposite side of the world. When I was in China, I used to resist all kinds of productions that imported from Japan, however, after I get to know about Japan, I found out there are many positive things that I didn’t know about the relationship between China and Japan, this is also one of the benefits that I’ve got since I started taking Japanese class.

There is some basic knowledge about Japanese language:
There are 4 systems in the Japanese
Katakana
Hiragana
Kanji (Chinese)
Romaji

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingThis is the photograph which was published by famous Chinese photographer Xie Hailong in 1991. It was named “Big Eyes”. Also, it has been used for “Project Hope Education” (China Youth Development Foundation) as an official propaganda picture poster. It gives us a powerful sense of their living condition and academic environment. It is a spotlight of the students who want to go to school, but unfortunately are not able to afford it. A pair of big eyes gives us a strong feeling for them. The sight and the entire picture have brought us to a world which we have never got touched. A little hand is holding a pencil; an old book is under her hand. From the background of the picture, you probably can see what kind of studying environment they had, there is no TV; there is no heater; there is even no electricity or running water. A dark,run-down classroom with some old disreputable desks. A few tattered books are not even enough for everyone. Most of the time, they don’t even have pencils or papers to write on. That’s all they have for class. But the hope of going to school has not decreased, they want to read, they want to write, they want to be a person who can understand the world, they want to get to know the world. “We need help”. That’s what the pair of eyes has been telling us.

The New York Times is one of the most famous public propagates in the nation, especially considering with “New York”, one of the most famous cities with lights turned on all night. I think “The New York Times”blog-Screens is a good example to show the nation and the world what “New York” truly means, as well as New Yorkers daily life and local culture.

This particular blog has provided “The New York Times” into several different parts. Each one of them represents different contents under a particular title, such as “World”, “US”, “N.Y/ Region”, “Business”, “Technology”, “Science”, “Health”, “Sports”, “Opinion”, “Arts”, “Style”, “Travel”, “Jobs”, “Real Estate”, and “Autos”. From the macro world, then concentrates to people’s daily life.

White background color with dark blue or black context, everything looks simple and seems so dull. But all the article’s titles have caught my attention. This site is more considered with information, messages, and news by giving up the fancy decoration of the blog. The news has covered through different areas and levels on the site. For example, the “Arts”, I have discovered lots of interesting information on there. On the right top corner, there is a paragraph about “screens”. “With television and the Internet converging at last, who's going to watch all this here-goes-nothing online video? Everything from political propaganda videos to pseudo-candid celebrity rants seems to expect an audience. "Screens" will find, review and make sense of all those senseless new images: web video, viral video, user-driven video, custom interactive video, embedded video ads, web-based VOD, broadband television, diavlogs, vcasts, vlogs, video podcasts, mobisodes, webisodes, mashups and more.”

Those information give us a little background about their blog, gives readers (especially a new reader like me) some ideas about the blog. What is the blog about? Is there anything interesting that audience would expect to see?

Also, there is a spot that under the “screens” named “Popular Tags”, there are more than hundred tags are arranged in an alphabetical order, they have made for audience to find the information that they need much easier on this blog.

Like what the “screens” says, those articles are all attached with one or more short videos (most of them were copied from Youtube).

Considering with my own blog, “The New York Times” blog is much more popular of course, also it’s fun to visit. Also I think “The New York Times” blog is more like a blog which is belonged to a group or an organization, although my blog is more like a person as an individual. “The New York Times” is representing the ideas or opinions of the entire “The New York Times”, but my blog only has to response for myself (or the engl 1020 class).

However, there are lots of great things for me to draw on the experience of how to actually create an interesting blog, such as content choosing, images choosing, and video choosing.

Observational Essay- Distance

Gloomy, cold, snow, storm, wind.....those are the words that we use to describe the weather for Colorado. Especially this year, after people have been through several snow storms, bus has been the safest transportation that most residents would make use of.

This is the number 15 bus runs on Colfax. Since Colfax is the longest boulevard in Colorado, it goes through all the way to East Chamber from Central downtown. Plus this is the busiest bus runs in town, 15 is crowded at most of the time.

It has poor condition for driving; number 15 becomes my first choice.

5 o’clock in the afternoon, it already looks dark outside of the bus. It’s another frozen snowing day, 15 is packed extremely. The distance between all the passengers also decreases incapably because the little space inside of the bus. All the seats are taken and even the space between left and right sides of the seats is filled with passengers. Heater and the crowd has brought up the high temperature, only when operator opens the door, cold air seeps inside of the bus, it’s the only time you can feel the different between outside and inside.

A little boy is sitting in the corner, concentrating on the book that he has in hands, slender fingers push the frame of his glasses sometimes, childish smile appears on his face at times he is reading. Comparing with him, crowd and noise are felt out of his element.

A 30 years old man is sitting beside him, black colored suit looks clean and tidy, a travel case is sitting beside his legs, along with his phone, he has been talking since the moment he got into the bus. He has checked several times of his watch, then he switched his cell phone to another side and kind stretched his arm within the little space.

Front of the suit man, there is a brown colored hair lady holding a baby inside her arm. Her make up is kind of rustic for her age, big golden ear rings are hanging down. Her baby is sleeping in her arm quietly. She is patting her baby slowly with the golden rings on hands. She looks outside of the window sometimes and then turns back look her baby.

A 50-year old lady has caught my attention. She is sitting at the front behind the driver seat; head is forwarded and trying to see the road. Grey and messy short hair has almost covered half of her face. Red eyes are looking at everyone with an unreadable light. Her face is full of wrinkles, skin is dry and dark. Some part of her old fashion black leather coat is worn, snow is melted on the top of her two shoulders, the color of her jeans has already been washed off, her shoes still have some snow on them, the bottom of her jeans are already wet. She is holding her hand with another, once a while, she kind of put the messy hair behind her ears once with the rough skin on her hands.

“This is Colorado blvd.....”with operator’s voice from the microphone, the door is followed to open. This station can be connected to several other different lines, plus it is rush hour, passengers look like more than what the bus can fit.

Driver pulls down the stage for handicapped then gets out toward the door. He bends down then pulling something up. Everyone is curious to see what’s going on. A 30 years old man gets into the bus, a baby is staying in his arm, the baby carriage is beside him. Look inside of the carriage, an old-style TV has taken all the space inside of it. All the passengers who were standing near by the door have to move back to save the room for the carriage and other passengers. An apologetic expression has appeared on his face, he moves to the side of the bus near by the window, trying to save as much space he can to save the room. Baby starts crying without control, the man is using one arm to hold the baby, another one holds the carriage. A small blanket covers most part of the baby; it’s kind of dirty on the part which is hanging down from the man’s hand. Beside him, there is the “messy hair” lady, casting her head aside from the man with her sharp light.

5 minutes later, “messy hair” starts to talking with a husky and disdain voice.

“I don’t understand it, why he lets a T-V- sitting in there? If he put the baby in there, I understand it, but.....”With her hands waving in the air, she finished with her first sentences. Unlike what she thought, there is no response from other passengers after she brought the topic up.

After the second time she pulls her hair, she starts to continue. “I’m a Native American, and a devout Christian, you know? It’s evil!”

Passengers look at her, someone shake their head, and someone didn’t pay lots attention and continue on what they were doing.

Since the “messy hair” started to talking, the man puts his head down, didn’t speak a word. His eyes look grey and the apologetic expression is getting deeper. Baby is still crying under the blanket, like the protest for his father.

“It’s not right!....” she continues.

“It’s their transportation, what do you wanna they do?” A young lady who is sitting near by the “messy hair” starts to cut “messy hair” voice off. “Besides that, bus is a public transportation, everyone can ride it, not only you!” After the young lady’s last word, “messy hair” turns her head to another side.

“This is Quebec, connection can be made to....” bus is slowing down, door is open for unloading passengers. At the moment when the man getting out from the bus, he nods his head to the young lady who just spoke for him. “Thank you!” low and deep.

“Take care.” The young lady nods her head back.

Operator opens the handicapped stage, the man, the baby, and his carriage disappear in the cold dark dusk.

Cold air seeps inside of the bus, no one knows how long they have to keep staying in the cold night......

Observation about international airport

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

First of all, I have to say that I had a totally different object for my observational essay besides this one. However, after I looked all of those questions for post #4, I couldn’t find anything that considering with my object. So I decided to choose another topic which is easier to find other resources to support and much more closer to our lives.
Couple days ago, my dad and I were searching airplane ticket for my mom and my sister to go back China on March. By the way, I have looked at several different international airport official websites, such as
DIA (Denver International Airport), Shanghai International Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport.
By my researching, I discovered those airports not only provide multiple air routes for global passengers, but also different kinds of services inside of the airports, such as Hong Kong international airport has provided
Shyplaza shopping, dinning, and entertainment services, such as bookstores, liquor & tobacco, health & beauty, personal care, money exchange, bank service, and even shoe shine service.
“Capacity, capacity, capacity. Whether it is airfield, passenger or cargo facilities, Denver International Airport has room to grow. Situated on 34,000 acres or 53 square miles, DIA is one of the largest airports in the world. From the expansive and beautiful Jeppesen Terminal to Colorado second largest Public art display, Denver International Airport is renowned for aesthetics, aviation safety, customer satisfaction and passenger convenience. At 11 years old, it is the nation sixth-busiest airport and the 11th-busiest in the world.” This is what shows on the
DIA’s website. All the numbers give us strong evidences about what the DIA has represented about our country.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport is the youngest airport in my home country China. Also, it was the airport I flied from four years ago when I came to United States. And it will also be the first place where my mom will arrive in China on March. On the Pudong’s website, there are lots of details for passengers, such as services locations, airport locations, city maps, and city weather searches.
Therefore, I have also discovered different airports also represent their countries and cultures. The most interesting example is Hong Kong International Airport, if you understand Hong Kong’s history, you could discover that western culture has merged into Hong Kong culture or even Asian culture. There are lots of factors you can find out just by looking at its website.
I think everyone has some sort of experiences about flight, especially for the people, like me, have to fly all the way through Pacific Ocean (just want to tell you how far it is, kind of hard to describe the distance), spend at least 20 hours in the plane. The safety and the quality of the flight would be the first two things I would concern about.
As I mentioned, “sky ride” has become one of the most important transportations for each one of us. As my audience, they might want to know what are the features about those different airports, what are the differences between them, what are the comments between them, furthermore, what are the specialties for each one of them.

“War is over”

My dear friends, have we ever thought about what “war” truly means? Have we ever thought about what a “peaceful world” means to the people who might die anytime under gunfire or violence?

Death is another explanation for “war”; tears are the factors behind it.

“An eye for an eye will make us all blind.”
-- Mahatma Gandhi

“So this is Christmas, what have you done?...” John Lennon has described a special Christmas to the listeners. It leads us to a world which is filled with violence, fire, and death. At the beginning of the video, there are pairs of pure eyes were looking at the camera.

An old father is crying without control, his son just died in the fire......
Hundreds of people are running, there is a tank unit behind them......
There are countless dead bodies are still lying on the side of streets. A dad who still has his baby in arm is one of them......
A little boy gives a “peace” sign to the camera when he is in the military truck.....
Two boys are playing in a meadowland which is filled with mines......
A lady is putting a flower at where her husband was died......
This entire video considers to the aspects of the victims during wars. Like what John Lennon sings in the song “another year is over”, the people who posted this video has the goal to tell the audiences “war is over” by saying “another year is over”. Also, by having the aid of Christmas, the most important holiday, to set the topic off.
These are just some episodes in the war, but it also shows us a different side of life. A totally dissimilar underworld than where we live. Like what Mahatma Gandhi said at the end of the video: “An eye for an eye will make us all blind.” We always say “the eye is the mind window”, what the “window” has showed for us is the darkness of the world.
“War” is still a sensitive topic for us.
My dear friend, please understand how grateful to live in a peaceful world if you are touched by looking at those pure eyes. Also, please pray for them for having a happy Christmas and happy life.

"War Is Over" Happy Christmas --by John Lennon

PS: Watching this video clip on the computer is unlike than watching it on the television. It’s because you have the chance to repeat it over and over. Furthermore, you can have your own decisions about what you want to watch. As well as more freedom than watching the television.

To understand the content fully, we need to get into deeper about the website. To be clarifying about the website depends on what details we will get and how well we know about it.
First of all, “who” considers the people who would visit the website. The who of the context can be the people who are interested in Rolex watches or to be knowledgeable about the world most famous watch brand. Since the price of Rolex is upper than other brands, buying a Rolex watch has become a signature of wealth. In addition, Rolex’s website has given us an official place to get to know about Rolex – the growth of Rolex, the design of Rolex, also the history of Rolex. Although Rolex is a expensive product for most of us, but the Rolex website visitor can be through all different levels and generations.
Secondly, the designer of Rolex website has done a great job by creating such a website. It has humanized Rolex into our lives considering with all other world events, as well as the nobility and luxury facts that has already adhered to the Rolex watches. Different icons on the top separate the website into different sections. Each part has a short video attaches with it; they represent the main point of each section. The “Timeline” has caught my attention most. This is a great connection between Rolex and the development of the world: a product and our lives. When you click on “Rolex affiliates”, there is a list of all the nations that has Rolex affiliate. You can click on any country in the list, it will show you the locations of those Rolex affiliate.
In addition, Rolex website introduces to you about Rolex, the quality, symbol, and history. In other hand, this is the only promotion that Rolex uses for advertising. It’s rarely to see any other kinds of advertisements besides supporting sports and other events in several fields. But most of us know about Rolex, the close relationship between Rolex and wealth.
All in all, you will find something you would never discovered about Rolex by visiting the website. Reviewing all the famous artists and sport players also is a great part on the site.

There is also other websites that have the same kind of website elements with Rolex, such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Lancome.

PS: respond for the question 1.
How does the medium of blogging & other forms of web-based writing differ from that of traditional print/paper-based writing?
Using blogging& web-based writing is a good way to publish your thoughts. It has substituted the limit of paper-based writing. Also it has been giving me a positive environment for writing practicing. I feel more freely about writing and more comfortable about writing. Using blogging is also good for environment protection. We wouldn’t have to print them out by using papers.

Rolex – a signature of high quality, status, position, even our lives.

click here to view Rolex's official website

“Rolex has a philanthropic tradition of supporting exceptional talent quality and achievement. The Rolex institute aims at sharing the recognition of individuals who, contribution to the world in which we live.”
“Sophisticated testing and quality control procedures are carried out at every stage of the process, from the moment a new design leaves the drawing board through to final quality certification.”
Rolex has persisted high quality products, and humanize their products with the real world. It has got deep into people’s mind about its brand. The official Rolex website also gives me a strong impression which has gathered all the elements and features about Rolex.
As an international brand, there are different languages options for you to choose when the first time you open it up, such as English, French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.
Forest green background has made to be a distinct color of Rolex’s yellow crown sign. As a high price level product, nobility and luxury are the first thoughts you would have about Rolex and Rolex website.
The center of the site is the most popular and famous Rolex watch – The Oyster Perpetual. It’s the best example to represent Rolex brand.
On the top of the website, you can click on different icons, such as “collections”, “world of Rolex”, “ambassadors”, “sport& culture” and “the Rolex institute”. The most impression that Rolex website has given to me is the timeline. (Click on “world of Rolex”, then “timeline”) There is a page called “A Century of achievement”, you can click on any year’s icon then you can see the world events for the particular year and the events for Rolex. In my opinion, this is a successful way to tell the website visitors that Rolex has growing by the development of the world. Example, in the year of 1908, it tells you the history about the creation of Rolex watches. “Wilsdorf registers a brand name with which to sign his creations – Rolex. Easy to pronounce in any European language, it is short enough to tastefully feature on the dial of a watch.”
Also, in ‘Sport& culture”, you will know the Rolex support top sporting and cultural events all over the world. It is present at more than 150 events in the realms of golf, yachting, tennis, equestrian tournaments, motor sport and the arts.
Therefore, on the center of the “Ambassadors”, there is a short paragraph says : In 1927, a young woman named Mercedes Gleitze swam through the icy waters of the English channel. On her wrist was a Rolex Oyster. It marked the beginning of a long tradition: the linking of Rolex watches with exceptional individuals. At the time, promotion was limited to advertising and the idea of associating a watch with human exploit was revolutionary. On the top there are different people who have done successful achievements in their lives through different fields. At that point, as an advertising promotion, they all have a same comment which is participating in the growth of Rolex.
Although Rolex is a high pricing product which has beyond the level that most of us could feel comfortable to afford, but in other hand, by looking at Rolex’s website, you definitely will have a strong impression about the world development by the growth Rolex. It’s not only a famous brand watch, but also a sprit that has participated in our human lives.
